KAAKHA KAAKHA (/5)
: Surya & Jyothika
Music: Harris Jeyaraj
Direction: Goutham
Remark: A sure "Paakha Paakha"

Great Movie. Technically Sound. This is the second movie for director Gautham (his MINNALEY was a big hit) and here he comes out with another fantastic film. He will surely make it big in tamil cinema. Surya is the hero and he has played with ease the ole of an Assistant Commissioner and that too an encounter specialist. The movie is about the life of an encounter specialist, the thrills and travails they encounter in their life. Surya perfectly fits the role of Asst. Commissioner Anbuselvan. He is a tough cop belonging to the crime branch. Along with a team of 4, he is given the project to finish 4 deadly gangsters. The initial scenes, where they go on a killing spree, takes us right into the movie. The first 1 hr. is at its thrilling best, with gun shots and chases. The scene where he kills one gangster from a roof top is shot well. Surya, meets Jyothika (great performance) and falls in love with her. This rumoured, real life pair, seem to be made for each other. As in any movie, they meet often, wherever they go, as in any movie, both start loving each other, they decide to get married. When they kill the last of the gangsters, the gangster's brother Pandya (Geevan) decided to get even with the cops. Geevan with his green Slangs and huge physique is a perfect dada fit. The second half, is all about, Pandya, going on a killing spree. Will Pandya win is the rest of the story. The dialogues written by the director, seems to have Manirathnam's influence and are a big plus. The one thing that is highly impressive is the Close Up shots of Suriya and Jyothika (during their conversation), after a long time, a movie with lot of close ups. The last 30 mints of the movie, seems to be stretched, with Pandya, being able to do, everything possible. I somehow feel that it is the villain who won the battle. The emotional angle of the life of an Encounter Specialist, has been conceived well, by the director, he has done a good homework and is worth appreciating. Surya, has underplayed his role beautifully, with no hero worship anywhere. The biggest asset for the movie is Harris Jeyaraj. All the songs are great. "Uyirin Uyirey", "Yennai Konjam Matri" (with a different type of a pictuarisation), "Onndra Renda Asaigal" and "Thoothu Varruma" are amongst this year's best. The photography is on a different plane, good job done. The movie team, has done a good job, though they could have re-worked the second half a bit. Kaakha Kaakha is certainly Paakha Paakha.
